[Grad-postdoc-assn] ASSISTANT RESEARCH PROFESSOR GREENHOUSE GAS

The Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State has an Assistant Research Professor position available to contribute to research projects focused on evaluation of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes and transport across North America. The successful candidate will analyze aircraft and tower observations and focus on integration of new observations and modeling work into estimates of greenhouse gas sources and sinks using atmospheric inversion methods. Group projects include study of biogenic and anthropogenic GHG fluxes and processes. Collaboration with students and research scientists spanning multiple universities and federal labs is expected. To qualify as an assistant research professor the successful candidate should have strong background in one or more of the following areas: carbon cycle science, ensemble modeling and data assimilation, inverse methods, boundary layer meteorology and aircraft data analyses and have at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. The final candidate must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, or a related field by the time of hire. The ability to contribute to research and data management, and to assist graduate students and postdoctoral scholars with projects is beneficial. This is a fixed term position, funded for one year from the date of hire, with a strong possibility of refunding. The position is available beginning October 1, 2019 and will remain open until filled. The salaries will be commensurate with experience and will comply with The Pennsylvania State University guidelines.
