Hello Estani, thanks for the clarification.

Indeed Jamie,
there are other problems and the pcmdi3 load problem is getting more present. But AFAICT this affects mostly data nodes publishing at PCMDI, as they don't have the possibility to go to pcmdi7, like others do.
BADC problem is a different one, which is affecting all data nodes with heavy traffic. I thik in those cases you get a "connection reset" message instead of the 403, which means the attribute service connection is timing out, assume the user does have the group membership.
So you are right, there are many other causes that could arise, and my percentages relate to what I see in the help-desk more than what actually might be happening...
That's the problem when I try to simplify things :-)
Thanks,
Estani

Hello Estani,
I thought there were other problems that lead to 403 at this stage (or maybe its an earlier stage). One is if the attribute service times out. (At least thats how I understood it - but I have to admit I'm not completely sure). I think BADC used to see this fairly frequently (before they limited the number of concurrent requests from on IP to the data node), and is one reason getting to MOHC data is sometimes a bit unreliable. Stephen has more of the details and can correct me if I've said anything too wrong.
Jamie
