Hi Chris,
The page looks great. Several things: I did not see much traffic re: Earth
Science Portal name problem. My take is that the team should consider
alternatives since, as you state, the NASA site already exists and we are not
associated with that project- and its hard sometimes to compete, or confusing
to users, with engines such as Google. But....

Here's a thought- are not the goals of the ESP similar to NCAR's Climate Data
Portal (CDP). Do you need another name-/ group? Why not just merge this
effort with CDP (-gee DonM heads that up). Call it an advisory or technical
devlp group/Provider Web template group for CDP- whatever. I don't mean to be
uncooperative here but it's safe to say that the end goals are key. Not
another group. Most of the goals there also parallel the NOMADS goals. It
just seems most of the folks on the ESP are part of NOMADS, and/or CDP (ESMF,
ESG, etc.). No doubt the NOMADS focus is on data access. ESP is back end
devlp no? Why not just pull folks into CDP who work on the back end
stuff...and into NOMADS who'll focus on the data access part? When it comes
down to it- distributed access provided by the Lab's and Center's is the
goal. I off base here? Maybe so, but I thought I'd throw this out there.

If not, for the new name consider the efforts goals, and the major benefits to
the community- to name the page. I liked the earlier suggestion by Cathy
Smith but not sure one would necessarily omit the data part, solely based on
the inclusion of model code. Thinking out loud: Climate (should) include
ocean, weather is (mean) climate. What else? That's about it- no? Websters
says Earth Science fits the bill (better than GeoScience anyway). GESP.
Change the G to Global? I don't know it needs some more thought tho'.

Either way- please provide links to COLA and the GrADS-DODS Server; and
include Brian Doty at COLA for POC section. Please remember that there seems
to be two camps out there... NetCDF, and GRIB. Climate and weather. Let's
not leave the weather community behind. Sorry for the rambling - seems to me
it needs to be said.

Regards, Glenn
