Disaster Science | Western Kentucky University | Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA

I am seeking a motivated master’s student to join the DSOC AI Research Lab at Western Kentucky University (WKU) beginning in Spring 2027, with a research focus on AI for energy systems and disaster resilience.

The student will work with Dr. Manmeet Singh on developing AI methods to support reliable and resilient energy systems. Potential research topics include:

  *   Solar power and electricity demand forecasting using weather and climate information.

  *   AI-supported operation and scheduling of microgrids.

  *   Energy resilience during extreme weather and power outages.

  *   Decision-support tools for renewable energy integration and disaster preparedness.

Applicants with backgrounds in engineering, computer science, atmospheric science, mathematics, geography, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Experience with Python, machine learning, time-series analysis, optimization, or energy systems is desirable. Strong quantitative skills and a willingness to work across disciplines are especially valued.

Funding: A graduate research assistantship is available. Details regarding the stipend, tuition support, appointment duration, and responsibilities will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
