Dear colleagues,
ORNL is planning for an upcoming project investigating ecosystem resilience along the Gulf Coast. We’re looking to hire several postdocs at ORNL and through our partners at Argonne National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium. We are currently accepting applications for the positions listed below. Additional positions are expected for LBNL (in coastal geomorphology/geospatial analysis) and Argonne (in spectroscopy/x-ray computed tomography). We’d appreciate your sharing these with any interested parties, and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
These positions should be open for applications through at least October 10.
Thank you,
Ben Sulman

The Plant-Soil Interactions Group within the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a postdoctoral researcher in Coastal Biogeochemistry. This researcher will use field observations and laboratory mesocosms to investigate how plant traits and soil properties confer resilience or vulnerability to disturbance in coastal wetlands. Research activities will evaluate how belowground plant traits and soil properties vary across inundation and salinity gradients in Gulf Coast wetlands. Potential areas of focus include belowground root traits, plant-microbe-soil interactions, physical and chemical soil properties, and organo-mineral associations.
Coastal Biogeochemistry (LUMCON)
The Coastal Biogeochemistry Lab <http://www.coastalbiogeochemistrylab.com/<https://www.coastalbiogeochemistrylab.com/>> at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), led by Dr. Havalend Steinmuller (hsteinmuller at lumcon.edu<mailto:hsteinmuller at lumcon.edu>), is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our research team. We are looking for a highly motivated, collaborative, and organized scientist to lead field and laboratory research on how salinity gradients and hydrologic alteration drive biogeochemical transitions across coastal Louisiana wetlands.
AI/ML for Gulf Coast Ecosystem Dynamics<https://jobs.ornl.gov/job/Oak-Ridge-Postdoctoral-Research-Associate-AIML-for-Gulf-Coast-Ecosystem-Dynamics-TN-37830/1427761600/> (ORNL)
The Computational Hydrology and Atmospheric Science (CHAS) Group within the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), remote sensing, Earth and environmental sciences, and the analysis of large-scale geospatial and time-series datasets. The candidate will develop and evaluate multimodal AI models to characterize vegetation and land-surface dynamics and quantify ecosystem responses and recovery following hurricanes and other disturbances.
Coastal Landscape Geospatial Modeling<https://jobs.ornl.gov/job/Oak-Ridge-Postdoctoral-Research-Associate-Coastal-Landscape-Geospatial-Modeling-TN-37830/1431014900/> (ORNL)
The Plant-Soil Interactions Group within the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a postdoctoral researcher in Coastal Landscape analysis and modeling, with a focus on training and application of predictive machine learning tools. This researcher will synthesize regional-scale remote sensing imagery and ecological monitoring data and develop data-driven methods for predicting land loss and ecosystem transitions in wetland-rich landscapes of the Gulf Coast with a focus on coastal Louisiana.
