The Wozniak Marine Organic Geochemistry lab at the University of Delaware
is recruiting a graduate student to work with us on an exciting NSF funded
project to study organic matter-iron interactions in aerosols collected
over the remote Pacific Ocean. The student would join the School of Marine
Science and Policy at the University of Delaware in Fall 2027. Please share
with any talented and motivated students interested in MS or PhD programs
in oceanography!

The project represents an opportunity to pair organic matter and Fe
measurements on aerosols from the under-sampled, remote south Pacific Ocean
to better understand the biogeochemical influence of atmospherically
delivered Fe on ocean productivity. It is anticipated that the student will
participate in at least one research cruise in the South Pacific Ocean to
collect samples for this project. The student will be trained and actively
involved in organic matter characterization techniques, including 1H NMR
spectroscopy, ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry (MS), and LC-MS, as
well as trace metal clean techniques.

Applicants holding bachelor’s or master’s degrees in chemistry,
geosciences, environmental science, marine science, or related fields are
desired. Applicants having experience with chemistry coursework, dissolved
organic matter (including spectroscopic and mass spectrometric techniques
listed above) and/or trace metal characterization techniques are desired
though all motivated individuals are encouraged to apply. Individuals from
all backgrounds will be considered. Interested students should email Dr.
