The Georgia Tech College of Sciences is searching for multiple open-rank tenure-track faculty positions in ecology and coastal processes (separately). Application review will begin December 1, 2026 though the application will remain open until the position is filled. You can find the full description below and at the following link along with the application submission page: https://tinyurl.com/GT-eco-coasts. Please reach out to search chair Dr. Joel Kostka (joel.kostka at biology.gatech.edu) if you have any questions.
—————————
As part of a new College of Sciences initiative, Georgia Tech for Georgia’s Tomorrow (GT2), the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in: 1) ecology and 2) coastal processes, with a preference to the rank of Assistant Professor. The U.S. Southeast region, including Georgia, is undergoing rapid environmental and land use change that have far-reaching effects on human and ecological systems. Thus, GT2 was created to address major challenges at the intersection of environmental and community resilience, by aligning discovery science, technological innovation, and AI-enabled decision tools to address urgent challenges.
Georgia Tech prides itself on its technological resources, collaborations, high-quality student body, and its commitment to building an outstanding community of learning, discovery, and creation. We strongly encourage applicants whose values align with our institutional values. These values include academic excellence, freedom of expression and inquiry, innovation, collaboration, and ethical behavior and stewardship. Georgia Tech has policies to promote a healthy work-life balance and is aware that attracting faculty may require meeting the needs of two careers.
Job responsibilities
In Ecology, we seek candidates who will make fundamental contributions to understanding how organisms respond to environmental change, with a particular interest in research that incorporates a behavioral perspective. Relevant research might investigate how human land use changes (e.g., urbanization) or climate change shape animal behavior, movement, foraging, and social dynamics in ways that affect biodiversity and ecosystem function. This hire will advance our ability to use adaptively manage ecosystems to maintain biodiversity and continue to provide ecosystem services to people.
For Coastal Processes, we are seeking candidates who will make fundamental contributions in the broadly-defined area of coastal processes through a range of methodological approaches, and whose research program addresses coastal resilience and solutions. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, coastal and nearshore oceanography, physical hydrology of surface and subsurface water, coastal geomorphology, and coastal hazards such as flooding and subsidence.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate is required by the start of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidates will complement the existing expertise within the College of Sciences (https://cos.gatech.edu/). Strengths in computational modeling, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and remote sensing are highly desirable. Applicants will be considered at all ranks with priority given to exceptional candidates at the assistant or early-associate professor stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.
Application Requirements
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, a description of teaching/ mentoring philosophy including the potential for contributions to GT’s mission and values, and the names and contact information for at least three references. In their application, faculty candidates should describe how they will contribute to GT2 by performing research that boosts resilience, reduces risk, and enables growth, with a demonstrative impact on communities of the U.S. Southeast region. Application materials should be submitted as one PDF file via the Georgia Tech online portal https://hr.gatech.edu/careers. An earned doctorate is required by the start of the appointment, and a background check must be completed prior to beginning employment.
