continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or
other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who
serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
------------------------------

Additional Department Summary: The Civil, Construction and Environmental
Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is seeking a candidate
for a Postdoctoral fellow position. This position is available to
individuals with research interests in atmospheric turbulence and
environmental fluid mechanics with expertise in turbulence theory and
simulations, data-driven modeling, and advanced measurement techniques.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Civil Engineering or a
related field such as atmospheric sciences or boundary layer meteorology
and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research that includes
peer-reviewed manuscripts in fundamental fluid mechanics journals and
atmospheric sciences journals. Initial appointments are for one year, with
renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity and funding.
------------------------------

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree
in Civil Engineering or a related field such as atmospheric sciences or
meteorology.
------------------------------

Skills and Knowledge: Extensive experience and working knowledge with both
experimental and computational approaches including large eddy simulations
(LES), direct numerical simulations (DNS), and numerical weather prediction
(NWP) models are required. Familiarity in handling and analyzing data from
a wide array of meteorological instruments such as Doppler lidar, sodar,
eddy covariance systems, microwave radiometers, radiosondes, and aerosol
sensors is needed. Background in data-driven and complex systems approaches
to model turbulent flows, including event-based modeling and network
science-based techniques are also necessary.
------------------------------

Preferred Qualifications: Strong capabilities and working knowledge in
time-series analysis, high performance computing, statistical mechanics,
complex systems science along with modern data-driven techniques.
------------------------------

Background Investigation Statement: Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s)
must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and
information obtained from social media and other internet sources. A prior
conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT
