Hello,
I am the Warehouse & Lab Manager at the Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS)
based in St. Paul. We're reaching out to a few institutions close to
Minnesota to share an opportunity that might interest some of your students.
We are currently hiring field assistants/technicians at the MGS! This is a
great opportunity for new grads or early career folks to get some hands-on
geology experience. Please share with your students and network as you see
fit.

- Full time, temporary (15-18 months), hiring up to 2 people. University
of MN benefits. $23.30/hour, work travel expenses paid. Combination of
field, office, and lab based tasks.
- Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent with some science
courses. Willingness to learn new geological field and lab skills. Valid
driver’s license. Work travel flexibility (repeated Monday-Friday overnight
travel in Minnesota). Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree with some
coursework in geology or related field.
- Field based tasks: Operate Giddings soil probe to collect subsurface
samples. Drive a variety of vehicles, commonly for 5+ hours. Collect
passive and occasionally conventional seismic data. Assist geologist
processing, transporting, and logging core samples. Navigate using compass
or GPS. Hike and potentially camp. Paddle, steer, and occasionally portage
a canoe.
- Office/lab based tasks: Determine rock composition using a binocular
microscope. Analyze well cuttings, enter data into existing databases.
Occasionally utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Assist
geologists in responding to public inquiries. Occasionally process sediment
samples.

<https://hr.umn.edu/jobs/Find-Job>" Page. Click "External Candidates" if

Search for job code “372645”. Click "Apply for Job" and complete all
application materials.
- Good luck! We look forward to getting to know you. Applications are
due by Tuesday, March 31st!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Best,
