Dear All,
A postdoctoral research position in Antarctic ice-sheet-ocean interactions
is available in France.
The broad aim of the investigation is to study ocean circulation in
ice-shelf cavities and develop machine-learning techniques to emulate this
circulation, with the ultimate goal of providing seaward boundary
conditions for ice-sheet models. However, the position allows significant
flexibility that could suit independent and self-driven candidates. The
postdoc will be based at the Physics Laboratory of Ecole Normale Supérieure
de Lyon and will work primarily with Irena Vankova (ENS de Lyon) and
Sebastian Rosier (University of Zurich). The position has a flexible
starting date and the appointment is initially for 2 years, but could be
extended for longer.
Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in the climate sciences, applied
math, or related physical science disciplines. Fluency in English is
required. Experience with at least some of the following is strongly
desired:
Running ocean models
Building machine learning emulators
Running ice-sheet models
Analyzing climate model outputs
All application materials listed below should be submitted in English
through the CNRS website:
https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR5672-IREVAN-001/Default.aspx?lang=EN
1) Full academic CV that includes names and email contact for 2-3 letter
writers
2) A cover letter explaining the interest and qualifications for the
position
3) A statement of research interests and career goals (1 page)
The deadline for the application is June 30th.
Do not hesitate to reach out by email (irena.vankova at ens-lyon.fr) if you
have any questions about this position, the laboratory (
https://www.ens-lyon.fr/PHYSIQUE), or the climate group (
https://climatephysics-ensl.fr/) in general.
Best regards,
Irena Vankova
