[ES_JOBS_NET] Postdoc in Earth System Science and Scientific Software at Penn State

The Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State
University is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to work at the
intersection of Earth system science, high-resolution atmospheric modeling,
and open-source scientific software.

The successful candidate will contribute to the NSF-funded project
"Transitioning UXarray to a Sustainable Open Source Ecosystem" and help
develop UXarray, a Python package that extends Xarray to support
unstructured computational meshes used in next-generation Earth system
models. They will also be expected to help plan, organize, and travel to
workshops and hackathons organized by the project team and engage with
early-career scientists, postdocs, and students interested in using
cutting-edge tools to answer questions in the Earth sciences.

The postdoc will also conduct original research in global atmospheric
modeling and weather and climate extremes, with potential applications
involving tropical cyclones, atmospheric rivers, extratropical cyclones,
E3SM, SCREAM, and AI/ML-based Earth system emulators.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in scientific
Python, collaborative software development, and atmospheric or Earth system
modeling. Experience with unstructured-grid data, open-source software,
GitHub workflows, CI/CD, Jupyter-based training materials, or models such
as E3SM, CESM, WRF, or SCREAM is desirable.

This is a 12-month, full-time appointment with the possibility of renewal,
contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Applications
