This is a unique opportunity to be involved in driving forward climate adaptation - through policies and analyses valuing wildfire and flood risk mitigation actions - and to learn about the models employed in the private sector for climate and catastrophe risks, since this role will support the department's model review process among other activities. This is an opportunity to maintain a strong technical focus while also gaining skill in policy, regulation, legislation, and outreach.
This is an excellent role for anyone coming from a science, actuarial, or economics background and looking to transition to meaningful work in policy! We're a friendly, collaborative, and passionate team offering a remote-focused hybrid work environment. The opportunity is listed in Sacramento, where the bulk of the Climate Branch is located, but we may be able to discuss options for those living elsewhere in the state.
Please feel welcome to reach out (kara.voss at insurance.ca.gov) with any questions on this opportunity or on the process for applying to state jobs through CalCareers.
Cheers,
Kara Voss, Ph.D.
Model Advisor
