Please distribute this great opportunity for undergraduate students at your institution! We are especially interested in recruiting students at community colleges or students who may not have access to REUs or international research opportunities at their current institution. A flyer is attached.

Join the Costa Rica - Ecohydrology of Tropical Forests REU out of Texas A&M University! Each summer, eight students participate in a hands-on 10-week research experience to characterize the gradient of soil, water, climate, and/or biodiversity in the watershed of a tropical montane forest in central Costa Rica. Each student is paired with a faculty mentor from Texas A&M University<https://costaricareu.tamu.edu/people/> and as a team, design the experiment or project the student will be working on in Costa Rica. In Costa Rica, students have the opportunity to work on field and laboratory research at the Texas A&M Soltis Center for Research and Education<https://global.tamu.edu/soltis> near San Isidro in central Costa Rica<https://earth.google.com/web/@10.38329,-84.6175575,444.67536097a,1037.20023705d,35y,0h,45t,0r/data=CloaWBJSCiUweDhmYTAxMmJhYjJmOTg2ODM6MHgxYjNmMDA3Njg0ZmZhMDAwGYbEPZY-xCRAIZF55A-GJ1XAKhdUZXhhcyBBJk0gU29sdGlzIENlbnRlchgCIAEoAg>. Learn more about the program here. <https://costaricareu.tamu.edu/about/> We also pay for registration, travel, and lodging for all students to attend and present their research at a conference. Throughout the 10-week program, students are granted stipends ($6000), housing, and all program-related travel expenses. We also pay for registration, travel, and lodging for all students to attend and present their research at AGU (Dec 2026). See past AGU abstracts here<https://costaricareu.tamu.edu/projects/>. So, this is a wonderful opportunity for students to get introduced to the life cycle of research - from designing experiments and hypotheses, to learning field and lab techniques and getting experience with statistical analyses/data visualization best practices all while learning how to communicate their research to the broader scientific community.

The dates for the 2026 program are May 25 to July 31 (with the trip to Costa Rica being from June 7 - July 5). Please note that students must be present for this entire 10-week period in order to participate in the program. The application is due Feb 2nd and the due date for resumes and transcripts is Feb 5th.
