Dear Colleagues,
*Dr. Ting Xiao’s research group* in the Ingram School of Engineering at *Texas
State University* *(**TXST), San Marcos, Texas*, is recruiting multiple
highly motivated *M.S. and Ph.D. students* for fully funded research
opportunities in:
Ÿ Groundwater hydrology and reactive transport,
Ÿ Geologic carbon storage (GCS),
Ÿ Geological reservoir simulation,
Ÿ Coupled processes in subsurface systems,
Ÿ Subsurface resource recovery and environmental sustainability, and
Ÿ Machine learning and artificial intelligence for subsurface
applications.
The research group is currently involved in multiple *U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE)*-funded *carbon management and **geologic CO2 storage (GCS)
projects*, as well as research on sustainable subsurface resource recovery,
environmental protection, and machine learning approaches for accelerating
real-time decision-making in subsurface applications.
*Funding and Research Opportunities*:
Selected students will receive:
Ÿ Full tuition coverage.
Ÿ Competitive annual stipend ($30,000-45,000).
Ÿ Opportunities to collaborate with researchers at TXST and with external
academic and industry partners.
Ÿ Opportunities to conduct interdisciplinary research addressing
important challenges in subsurface energy, carbon management, and
environmental sustainability.
*Required Qualifications*:
Ÿ A Bachelor's degree with a strong academic background in STEM, geology,
or a related field.
Ÿ Strong motivation to learn and work in an interdisciplinary research
environment.
Ÿ Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ÿ Strong interests in computational modeling, numerical simulation,
and/or programming.
*Preferred Qualifications*:
Ÿ Master’s degree in engineering, geology, or a related field.
Ÿ Experience with laboratory experiments and/or programming.
Ÿ Research experience, peer-reviewed journal publications, and/or
conference presentations.
Ÿ Experience with subsurface flow simulations, such as MODFLOW, ECLIPSE,
tNavigator, CMG, or TOUGHREACT.
Ÿ Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence.
