Postdoctoral Scholar - Coastal Image Analysis and Modeling
NOAA/USGS | San Francisco, CA (hybrid) | 18 months | Due September 4, 2026.
GFA and USGS are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to analyze a 30-year
archive of shoreline photos from 60+ beaches along the north-central
California coast – none of it previously analyzed for shoreline or
dune change, and run process-based coastal model projections under
sea-level rise scenarios.
This is a Python and machine learning-heavy role working with
real-world historical imagery and multiple integrated data sources.
The position is co-advised by Dr. Wendy Kordesch (GFA/NOAA) and Dr.
Sean Vitousek (USGS).
We are looking for someone with strong quantitative and computational
skills and experience with environmental modeling.
