Minimum qualifications:

   - PhD degree in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Atmospheric
   Science, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
   - 6 years of research experience post-PhD.
   - 2 years of experience leading a research agenda.
   - Experience in one or more specific areas of climate change (e.g.,
   climate dynamics, climate impacts, adaptation science, energy systems,
   sustainable development, and machine learning applications in climate).
   - One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences,
   journals, or public repositories (such as Physical Review, AAAS, Nature and
   npj, etc.).


Preferred qualifications:

   - Experience guiding, managing, or mentoring research teams.
   - Experience engaging with the broader climate research and
   sustainability communities.
   - Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and translating
   scientific research into practical applications, policy implications, or
   products.
   - Experience with programming, data analysis, and computational modeling.
   - Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application to
   scientific domains.
   - Excellent communication and people management skills, with the ability
   to convey scientific concepts to non-technical audiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $262,000-$365,000 +
bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level,
and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work
location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience,

Responsibilities

   - Define and direct a significant research program focused on novel
   approaches to climate resilience or sustainability, aligned with Google's
   broader efforts.
   - Conduct and oversee groundbreaking research, potentially spanning
   areas such as climate modeling, risk analysis, adaptation strategies,
   mitigation technologies, environmental monitoring, and the application of
   AI/ML to climate science.
   - Produce research outcomes, including publications in scientific venues
   and contributions to Google products and initiatives.
   - Provide expert guidance and thought leadership on climate resilience
   and sustainability internally and externally.
   - Identify and explore new research directions and opportunities at the
   intersection of climate science, technology, and AI.
