About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Instrumentation Specialist to join our team at the Air Quality Research Center. In this role, you will ensure the reliable performance of laboratory instrumentation through preventive and corrective maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, installation, and qualification.
Our laboratory specializes in advanced analytical instrumentation, including X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometers (XRF), Thermal Optical Analyzers (TOA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometers (FTIR), optical absorption instruments, and automated weighing systems for gravimetric analysis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on experience in analytical instrumentation who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Instrument Maintenance & Repair
* Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all lab instruments.
* Troubleshoot issues using root cause analysis.
* Coordinate with manufacturers for support, repairs, and parts procurement.
* Maintain proactive schedules to minimize downtime.
* Calibrations
* Perform and document calibrations per SOPs and QA standards.
* Monitor instrument performance and resolve calibration drift issues.
* Documentation, SOPs, and Training
* Develop, review, and update SOPs and technical documentation.
* Maintain logbooks and detailed repair records.
* Train lab staff on instrument operation and upkeep.
* Special Projects & Analytical Support
* Support installation, qualification, and validation of new equipment.
* Consult on instrumentation for research projects.
* Evaluate and coordinate with vendors regarding new or replacement instruments.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 3+ years of hands-on experience with laboratory analytical instrumentation.
* Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
* Knowledge of calibration principles and practices.
* Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and SOPs.
* Excellent documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* 3+ years working specifically with XRF and/or FTIR instruments.
* Experience with thermal optical analyzers, optical absorption systems, or automated gravimetric weighing.
* Familiarity with QA/QC frameworks in a laboratory environment.
* Experience training others on instrumentation.
* Knowledge of environmental or air quality research instrumentation.
