Postdoc on climate extremes and population health
Uppsala University, Sweden
There is an opening for a postdoc position in my group at Uppsala
University. The *preferred start date is January 2026, but there is
flexibility for earlier or later dates*, and the position is for 24 months.
Do not hesitate to contact me (gabriele.messori at geo.uu.se) should you have
any questions.
*Deadline for applications: 17th October*
*Further details and application form here

Applications over email will not be accepted.
*The position*
The post-doc will work in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet. The
focus is on integrating and analysing large-scale climate and health
datasets to investigate temporal and non-linear associations between
climate extremes and adverse health outcomes, beyond mortality. The work
will contribute to the development of spatially explicit health–climate
risk maps. Teaching/supervising duties are possible on a voluntary basis.
You will be based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences in Uppsala, but will be
expected to travel both nationally and internationally.
*The research group*
I coordinate a lively research group based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences
in Uppsala, which focuses on the dynamics of extreme climate events in the
mid and high latitudes and their impacts. We currently host several
nationally funded and H2020/Horizon Europe projects. More information on
our ongoing research can be found at *https://gmessori.eu/
<https://gmessori.eu/>*. This position will be in close collaboration with
the public health and climate group led by Elena Raffetti at Karolinska
Institutet (https://elenaraffetti.com/).
*The department*
Uppsala University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university with a
strong international standing. The Department of Earth Sciences (
https://www.geo.uu.se/ <https://www.geo.uu.se/?languageId=1>) is one of the
most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on
subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere and human
society, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the
formation of mountains and oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and
graduate levels.
