We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to apply to the Ocean Frontier Institute International Postdoc Fellowship<https://www.ofi.ca/opportunities/fellowships/international>, which is due November 28, 2025. This position will be co-supervised by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Scientist Dr. Scott Wankel and Dalhousie University Professor Dr. Carolyn Buchwald. If you are interested, please send a CV to us at cbuchwald at dal.ca<mailto:cbuchwald at dal.ca> and sdwankel at whoi.edu<mailto:sdwankel at whoi.edu> and we will coordinate the application.

This project will focus on the analysis and interpretation of nitrous oxide (N₂O) stable isotopes collected from Halifax Harbour, a region currently undergoing ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE). The overarching goal of this project is to identify sources and sinks of N₂O and to understand how anthropogenic influences, including OAE and wastewater effluent, impact N₂O dynamics.

The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with other post-docs within the CONVERGE CDR<https://www.ofi.ca/impact/converge-cdr> cohort. This includes one post doc that is quantifying through models the biogeochemical impacts of mCDR. CONVERGE CDR is currently building a cohort of post docs across science, data, engagement, policy, and economics to conduct responsible and ethical research on mCDR, including engagement with Indigenous communities and research on the secondary effects of mCDR.

Ideally, the post-doctoral fellow will have a background in oceanography, nitrogen cycling, isotope geochemistry or the like.

Cheers,
Carly and Scott
