Job description:
Air Intelligence Research Lab (AIR Lab) is looking for 1-2 self-motivated Ph.D. students to join the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University, starting in Spring 2026 or Fall 2026. The research topics cover:
  *
Air Quality Model Development: Develop atmospheric models to predict pollution concentrations from emissions, integrating machine learning approaches.
  *
Fine-scale Air Pollution Mapping: Predict air pollution concentration at high spatial-temporal resolution using data from satellite remote sensing, low-cost sensors, and other sources.
  *
Policy Solutions for Air Pollution Exposure: Leverage models to evaluate regulatory, climate, energy, and transportation policies aimed at reducing human exposure and associated health impacts.
  *
Risk communication using AI: Employ large language models in accessible air quality risk communication to the public.

Candidate requirements:
  *
Strong interest in air pollution and data science, with a passion for contributing to the scientific community and informing real-world environmental issues.
  *
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, atmospheric science, environmental health, data science, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred but not required).
  *
Proficiency in Python or other programming languages; experience in data analysis and geospatial data analysis is highly preferred.
  *
Prior research experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: air quality modeling, machine learning, statistical prediction, or satellite remote sensing.
  *
Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.
