Position Overview
The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor
in Atmospheric Sciences. We seek a promising scholar with a strong
foundation and the demonstrated potential to emerge as a leader in the
field.
Outstanding opportunities for collaboration exist with other campus centers
and units, including the Translational Data Analytics Institute,
Sustainability Institute, and the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center.
Performance Objectives
The successful candidate will be expected to:
· Develop and maintain a productive research program;
· Attract external funding;
· Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
· Demonstrate excellence in student mentorship; and,
· Support departmental operations as an active citizen through service on
committees, project assignments, and/or administrative leadership roles.
Education and Experience Requirements
*Required*: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Geography, Atmospheric Science,
or a closely related field. We seek a colleague with research expertise in
one or more of the following areas: physical, polar, tropical, synoptic,
mesoscale, or radar meteorology. The candidate’s research program may also
leverage the Department of Geography’s newly available mobile phased array
X-band radar coming online in winter 2026.
*Desired*: The ideal candidate should have a strong background in
meteorology. Previous degrees in Atmospheric Sciences or Meteorology are
preferred. Previous experience with university teaching is also desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity, collegiality, and the
capacity to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries within the
department, the university, and the broader atmospheric sciences community.

and is among the largest geography departments in the country. Our 20+
full-time faculty and eight staff members manage a graduate program with
some 50 students and an undergraduate program with 450 majors. We are known
nationally and internationally as a leader in social and environmental
geography, GIS, spatial analysis, and atmospheric sciences and meteorology.
Our faculty include members of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National
Academies of Science.

global and regional climate change, paleoclimates, climate modeling,
cryospheric assessment and impacts, tropical meteorology, atmospheric
circulation, severe storms and tornadogenesis, tropical glacier melt,
drought, and atmosphere-surface interactions.
