Dear all,

I (Fiona Clerc) am recruiting one or two PhD students for my research group
at the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University, to start in the
Fall of 2026. My research group uses simple models to study physical
processes within the Earth’s cryosphere and solid Earth, and their
connections. Current research directions which frame potential PhD projects
include: 1) modeling the role of subglacial groundwater in modulating the
heat flux imparted to the base of ice sheets, 2) modeling and observing
fractures at pinning points on ice shelves, 3) modeling the influence of
ice sheet retreat on magmatic systems and implications for CO2 release.

Please contact me at <fiona.clerc at stonybrook.edu>(<
https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/geosciences/people/_faculty/clerc.php>)
by sending a CV and brief explanation of your research interests, so that
we may discuss potential projects. Ideal candidates would have research
experience or coursework relevant to running numerical simulations of
cryospheric or geodynamic processes, such as a background in physics,
fluid/solid mechanics, geophysics, computer science, or math. The
application can be submitted here (deadline January 15): <

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Fiona
