The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences (EOS) in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, the state’s coastal university, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2026.

We seek an expert in applied geodesy, geophysics, and/or remote sensing who applies innovative methods to measure and interpret physical changes across Earth’s land and ocean surfaces. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:

  * Crustal deformation driven by tectonics, magmatism, isostatic adjustment, or dynamic topography
  * Sea-level change and coastal and marine landscape evolution
  * Subsidence, mass wasting, storm-driven change, and other hazards impacting land areas and ocean margins

We welcome candidates who integrate geological, geophysical, geodetic, and/or geodynamic methods, using tools such as satellite and marine geodesy, remote sensing, altimetry, seafloor and terrestrial GPS networks, or numerical modeling.

The ideal candidate will develop a robust, externally funded research program and successfully advise graduate students. The candidate will demonstrate a strong record of effective teaching and be comfortable instructing courses at the introductory, upper division, and graduate levels.
