We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to apply to the Ocean Frontier Institute International Postdoc Fellowship<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.ofi.ca/opportunities/fellowships/international__;!!G92We9drHetJ8EofZw!YwuSt3XQup9ovuwry2CL9vN1oKUUzMw-Zl6jZ6F0VRIEg0UugcSjB5Ig-Cquo10CEyND_AKq_viqaQpv8nipMUDPuw$>, which is due November 28, 2025. This position will be co-supervised by Stanford Professor Kristen Davis and Dalhousie University Professor Dr. Carolyn Buchwald. Please contact cbuchwald at dal.ca<mailto:cbuchwald at dal.ca> and kristen.davis at stanford.edu<mailto:kristen.davis at stanford.edu>, if you are interested, and we will coordinate the fellowship application.
This project focuses on using models to calculate carbon and nitrogen fluxes in a sugar kelp farm in Nova Scotia. The postdoctoral researcher will coordinate sampling campaigns at the farm to collect data for model validation. The objective is to create a model that can assess the potential for carbon sequestration in kelp aquaculture and quantify associated co-benefits. The model will be tested under different environmental and site conditions to identify key factors that contribute to maximizing the ecological and environmental benefits of kelp farming.
The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with other post-docs within the CONVERGE CDR<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.ofi.ca/impact/converge-cdr__;!!G92We9drHetJ8EofZw!YwuSt3XQup9ovuwry2CL9vN1oKUUzMw-Zl6jZ6F0VRIEg0UugcSjB5Ig-Cquo10CEyND_AKq_viqaQpv8ngEb3ffKA$> cohort. This includes one post doc that is quantifying through models the biogeochemical impacts of mCDR. CONVERGE CDR is currently building a cohort of post docs across science, data, engagement, policy, and economics to conduct responsible and ethical research on mCDR, including engagement with Indigenous communities and research on the secondary effects of mCDR.
Ideally, the post-doctoral fellow will have a background in oceanography, ecosystem modeling and the like.
