Dear Colleagues,
The Hydro-Biogeochemistry Lab in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking one or two PhD students to begin in Fall 2026. These positions are fully funded through a combination of research and teaching assistantships. We are particularly interested in applicants who are passionate about exploring the interactions between hydrology and nitrogen biogeochemistry in agricultural ecosystems. The selected student(s) will lead research on soil–microbe–plant nitrogen dynamics under variable hydrological conditions, employing stable isotopes (nitrate, nitrous oxide, water, and 15N-enriched tracers), high-frequency hydrochemical sensors, and data-driven modeling approaches. More information about our lab’s research is available on our website at https://biogeochemistry.illinois.edu/.
Candidates from diverse disciplinary backgrounds are welcome. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Zhongjie Yu at zjyu at illinois.edu<mailto:zjyu at illinois.edu> with a brief statement of research interests and experience, along with a resume or CV. Official applications are due by March 15, 2026.
Please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested.
Thank you!
Zhongjie
