The Richter Lab within the Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth
Sciences Department (CEEES) at the University of Notre Dame, IN, USA is
seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of computational atmospheric
boundary layer turbulence and air-sea interaction. Depending on the
particular expertise of the candidate, the project will seek to use
numerical tools, primarily large-eddy simulation (LES) and Lagrangian cloud
modeling (LCM), to better understand the dynamics and interaction between
waves, turbulence, spray droplets, marine aerosols, and clouds. The
postdoctoral associate will work alongside a wider team making a variety of
measurements and observations in both low- and high-wind environments.
Experience in computational fluid dynamics, turbulence, numerical modeling,
large eddy simulation, and/or atmospheric science is preferred. Candidates
should have a recent Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, civil and
environmental engineering, physics, atmospheric science, meteorology,
computer science, or related discipline. We are seeking independent,
self-motivated scientists who are eager to work on interdisciplinary teams
on multi-physics and multi-scale problems. Job responsibilities include
designing and conducting process-level simulations to understand air-sea
interaction physics, potentially mentoring graduate and undergraduate
researchers, and writing peer-reviewed papers.
The duration of the position is one year with funding available to extend
to two based on performance. Applications will be accepted until the
position is filled. The desired start date is August 1, 2025, but this is
negotiable. Interested candidates should send a current CV, 1 recent
publication, and a list of 3 references to Prof. David Richter at
David.Richter.26 at nd.edu. Questions regarding this position should be sent
to this address as well. For further information on the research being done
in this group, visit http://www.nd.edu/~drichte2.
