Dear all,
The Climate & Water Lab <https://sylviadeeclimate.org/> in the Department
of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University invites
applicants for two positions:
1) Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the field of climate change and
human health. The position requires a strong background in climate science
& modeling, as well as with remote sensing products. Experience in
numerical/statistical and geospatial modeling is required, and experience
running CAM and/or CESM is preferred. This project will involve the study
of extreme heat and vector borne disease in Houston and Texas at large, and
will study interventions based on early warning systems. Applicants with a
strong background in epidemiology or other public health sciences who are
interested in working with climate data are also welcome.
2) Climate Data Scientist in the field of monitoring changes in the
hydrological cycle with stable water isotopes. This position will entail
the development of a water isotope database merging ground-based, remote
sensing, and paleoclimate data spanning the atmosphere, oceans, and land
surface. Experience with database management, large geospatial datasets,
and Python tools such as xarray and Cartopy is strongly preferred.
Candidates will be expected to contribute positively to the department
climate through mentoring and service. Both domestic and international
applicants are welcome. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
These two projects are supported for up to two years, pending satisfactory
progress during the first year, and cover a competitive stipend with a
benefits package and an additional annual discretionary research allowance.
