[ES_JOBS_NET] Two postdoc positions for agroecosystem sensing and modeling at Peking University

The Digital Agroecology Lab at Peking University is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers to work on agroecosystem sensing and modeling. The successful candidate will use multi-source satellite imagery to investigate study the impacts of climate change on agricultural productivity and the environmental consequences, develop high resolution crop and plantation maps, and quantify agricultural carbon emissions. Potential projects may also involve process-based modeling and novel AI approaches such as knowledge-guided machine learning. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Zhenong Jinin the Institute of Ecology and will work closely with a diverse group of international collaborators.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will work to develop a research project aligned with the overall goals of the team. Responsibilities include designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, contributing to the writing of grants and manuscripts, and aiding in oversight of more junior team members.

 

Essential Qualifications:
All applicants are expected to have a strong quantitative background, and a doctoral degree in a field such as earth and atmospheric science, hydrology, ecology, agronomy, geospatial systems, environmental science, or closely related fields. In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

●      Demonstrated expertise in satellite remote sensing, image analysis, and crop mapping.

●      Knowledge of machine learning beyond simple tools such as Random Forest.

●      Strong programming experience (e.g., Python, Fortran, or C++) and be familiar with supercomputing and/or cloud platforms.

 

Preferred qualifications:

●      Rich experience and deep understanding of process-based models.

●      Effective writing ability and experience in preparing results for scientific publication.

●      Strong data visualization skills.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary for the post-doctoral position will be between RMB 300,000 – 350,000 per year, along with social insurances and other benefits, based on the applicant's academic potential, excellence, and overall performance.
