*PhD Assistantship researching Natural Climate Solutions at the University
of Idaho*

We are recruiting for a fully-funded PhD student at the University of Idaho
to study ecology and natural climate solutions. We are a diverse team
spanning ecologists, economists, and sociologists with specific interest in
studying climate-smart land management. Our team is implementing natural
climate solutions in Inland Northwest forests and agricultural fields to
study the ecological benefits, the economic impacts, and the sociological
barriers to implementation. We are recruiting a PhD student to work on the
ecosystem impacts portion of this project, particularly the integration of
field measurements with ecosystem/biogeochemical modeling. The PhD student
will work with the team to plan measurements and experiments that will
directly inform model parameterization and evaluation. We encourage
applicants with field work experience and with an interest in
biogeochemical modeling. The graduate research assistantship will provide a
tuition waiver, health insurance, and a competitive stipend.

*Required experience: *Experience with data analysis/entry; field and/or
lab work; MS from a US-based institution or 2-3 years of relevant work
experience.

*Preferred experience:* Experience with scientific coding (R, or other
languages), field work, and contributing to manuscripts. Interest in
ecosystem ecology/biogeochemistry, natural climate solutions, and
conducting ecological field work.

*Location:* The student will be based in person at the University of Idaho,
located in Moscow, Idaho. Moscow, Idaho, offers an exceptional quality of
life, making it an ideal place to live for those seeking a balance of
small-town charm and access to outdoor adventures. Nestled in the rolling
hills of the Palouse, this vibrant community boasts a rich cultural scene,
excellent schools, and a strong sense of local pride. The town is home to
the University of Idaho, providing a dynamic, college-town atmosphere with
a variety of activities, events, and opportunities for professional and
personal growth. With proximity to natural beauty, there are plenty of
outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, and skiing,
Washington State University is 5 miles away, and students will be able to
take cooperative classes there.
