[ES_JOBS_NET] Graduate opportunity: Environmental Hydrodynamics at Western Washington University

Western Washington University’s Environmental Hydrodynamics Lab is seeking  applications for a TA-funded Master of Science student beginning in Fall 2025. Applicants will work with Sam Kastner (website link<https://sites.google.com/wwu.edu/wwu-ehl/home>) on one of the following projects:

  *   Physical processes in clam gardens, an Indigenous ecosystem management tool common to the Indigenous peoples of the Northeast Pacific. Specific processes include surface wave transformation and heat fluxes within a local clam garden. This project is fieldwork based.
  *   Estimating the transport of dissolved organic carbon in Padilla Bay, WA, to help understand the cycling of dissolved organic matter in the system and its impact on local eelgrass. This work will include a combination of fieldwork and numerical modeling.
  *   Quantifying the impact of offshore flow-topography interactions on driving exchange in multiple inlet estuaries and bays. This work is numerical modeling based.
Required qualifications: Applicants must meet the WWU Marine and Estuarine Science Program standards for admission listed here<https://cenv.wwu.edu/esci/ms-environmental-science-marine-and-estuarine-science>. Note that the GRE is not required.
Additional desired qualifications include: experience with marine science, experience with computational data analysis (in Matlab, Python, or R), courses taken in calculus and physics.
