The California Department of Public Health Environmental Health Laboratory is hiring a Wildfire Smoke Scientist for their Wildfire Smoke Mitigation Program.
This position will evaluate key wildfire smoke chemical exposure risks (PM2.5, heavy metals, and gas-phase chemicals) to be reduced using air measurement data under different air conditions, community characteristics, and protection strategies. They will also evaluate the health and cost effectiveness of the recommended clean air solutions (e.g., HEPA portable air cleaners, DIY cleaners, masks, furnace filters, community centers) using operational costs and air measurement data, and discuss and evaluate clean air solutions with our government and community partners.
This position is located in Richmond, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), and is eligible for telework 2 days per week.
The CDPH Environmental Health Laboratory provides technical expertise on air quality and biochemistry measurements to identify emerging environmental exposures and promote the health of all Californians. It has a multidisciplinary staff of 30 experts in chemistry, toxicology, aerosol science, ventilation, engineering, and epidemiology.
