full-time Computational Geoscientist to support computational science
activities across EPS and its newly established high-performance computing
cluster.*

Responsibilities

   -

   Work closely with computationally oriented faculty, researchers, and
   students in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences to increase
   efficiency of computational research
   -

   Optimization of data analysis and archiving workflows including high
   throughput data processing, development of platforms to analyze large model
   outputs, and other computational and data science tasks.
   -

   Troubleshooting of environment, package, and code issues.
   -

   Assist with code development underlying earth and planetary science
   research.
   -

   Optimization of software for high-performance and parallel computing
   platforms and to enhance computational efficiency.
   -

   Assisting with transitioning existing codes to follow best practices for
   shareability, version control, benchmarking, and documentation.
   -

   Developing and delivering trainings for students and faculty on big data
   analysis best practices and emerging methods.

Required Qualifications

Masters or PhD in a computational field OR B.S. in a computational field
plus work experience in a computational field equivalent to a Masters or
PhD. Experience working with geoscientific datasets. Experience working
with high performance computing systems. Scientific and interpersonal
skills to interface with heterogeneous teams of scientists. Excellent
written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior research experience in computational geoscience fields, such as
climate science, geophysics, and/or remote sensing. Experience running
physics-based earth system models. Experience working with packages and
platforms used to support 4D geoscientific big data research, such as Zarr,
Dask, Globus, and Jupyter Hub.
Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications
