I am seeking applications for graduate students in my group in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)<https://eaes.uic.edu/>. Broadly, my group works on understanding long-term, large-scale hydrological change, water storage in the landscape, and landscape morphology. You can learn more about my past and current research <https://kcallaghan.github.io/> here<https://kcallaghan.github.io/>.
The focus of this position will be on understanding how runoff is stored in landscape depressions at a large scale, and the impacts of this on streamflow. The project will be predominantly computational, and will include coding, wrangling of big data, and running simulations.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Earth science, hydrology, or a related field is required; coding or modelling experience would be an advantage.
Start date: Fall 2026
Application deadline: January 15, 2026 (please contact me well before this deadline if you would like to apply)
If you are interested in applying, please contact me at kerryc at uic.edu<mailto:kerryc at uic.edu>. Include your CV and a brief description of your research interests and experience.
Regards,
Kerry Lee Callaghan
