Postdoctoral Research Position in Physics-Based Machine Learning for Hurricane Compound Flood Modeling and Coastal Resilience
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team in advancing the modeling and understanding of hurricane-driven compound flooding and decision-relevant coastal resilience strategies in a warming climate.
The successful candidate will develop and apply physics-based and machine-learning–enabled modeling frameworks to simulate compound hurricane hazards—including storm surge, extreme rainfall, and riverine flooding—and to evaluate nature-based, engineered, and hybrid adaptation strategies under climate change and sea-level rise.
This position will contribute to ongoing projects within the Georgia Tech for Georgia’s Tomorrow (GT^2) program and the Coastal Equity and Resilience (CEAR) Hub, integrating high-resolution tropical cyclone and hydrodynamic models with AI/ML emulators to support decision-ready coastal adaptation planning.
More information about the position, including duties, required competencies, and application instructions can be found in the official announcement PDF here:

• Experience in one or more of the following:
• Physics-informed machine learning and surrogate/emulator modeling
• Numerical modeling of storm surge, rainfall, or riverine flooding
• Multi-hazard tropical cyclone risk assessment
• Strong programming and computational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience in integrating AI/ML and translating modeling results into actionable insights for climate adaptation is strongly preferred
