The Hayes Lab for Marine Geochemistry (chrishayesgeochemistry.com) and the Coastal Evolution and Hazards Lab both at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) are jointly seeking applicants for a graduate assistant pursuing a PhD in Marine Science, to begin as early as January 2026. The successful applicant will work on NSF funded projects: (1) Developing a highly resolved millennial-scale tropical cyclone reconstruction from atoll and blue hole sites in the Western Pacific (Micronesia, Palau, Philippines); (2) Producing Saharan dust records from the western Atlantic over the past 1500 years to help evaluate climate linkages between hurricane activity and aerosol dust transport. We seek candidates with a strong background in chemical analyses, proficiency in data analysis and excellent organizational skills. Inquire by Sept. 1, 2025.
