The Marine Micropaleontology working group led by Prof. Dr. Denise Kulhanek at Kiel University in Germany is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to begin on or after 3 December 2025. The position is initially for three years, with the opportunity to extend for an additional three years. The researcher will join the SVALCLIME project, which aims to explore deep-time Mesozoic climate archives from the sedimentary record of Svalbard and compare with other regional and worldwide records to examine ecosystem response and resilience to environmental perturbations caused by large igneous province volcanism. The researcher will also have the opportunity to develop their own research program and seek external research funding. There is also a teaching requirement associated with this position.
A PhD in geology, micropaleontology, paleoceanography, paleoclimatology or similar field with experience in radiolarians, benthic foraminifera, or palynomorphs is required. The applicant should also have expertise in at least one (preferably several) of the following areas: Mesozoic radiolarian, palynomorph, or benthic foraminifera taxonomy; cyclostratigraphy and/or astrochronology; Mesozoic paleoclimate; Arctic paleoclimate; or microfossil geochemistry. Good English skills are required, together with evidence of the ability to publish research results in international journals or books, as well as obtain research funding.
