Postdoc on Storyline Scenarios for Climate Tipping Points

Uppsala University, Sweden

There is an opening for a postdoc position in my group at Uppsala
University, as part of the Horizon Europe project ClimTip. The *preferred
start date is September 2025, but there is flexibility for earlier or later
dates*, and the position is for 24 months. Do not hesitate to contact me (
gabriele.messori at geo.uu.se) should you have any questions.

*Deadline for applications: 6th May*

*Further details and application form here

<https://uu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:764850/>

Applications over email will not be accepted.

*The position*

The post-doc will work within the Horizon Europe project ClimTip, and more
specifically on integrating results on extreme climate events, projection
uncertainty and socio-environmental risks following climate tipping points
into storyline scenarios at regional/local level. These storylines aim to
provide an evaluation of tipping point impacts for different societal
groups and a qualitative cost-benefit assessment of possible adaptation and
mitigation strategies. The output of this analysis will provide concrete
guidance to policymakers, beyond that of a typical climate model
projection/scenario. Teaching/supervising duties are possible on a
voluntary basis. You will be based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences in
Uppsala, but will be expected to travel both nationally and
internationally.

*The research group*

I coordinate a lively research group based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences
in Uppsala, which focuses on the dynamics of extreme climate events in the
mid and high latitudes and their interactions with other components of the
Earth System. We currently host several nationally funded and H2020/Horizon
Europe projects. More information on our ongoing research can be found
at *https://gmessori.eu/
<https://gmessori.eu/>*.

*The department*

Uppsala University is a comprehensive, research-intensive university with a
strong international standing. The Department of Earth Sciences (
https://www.geo.uu.se/ <https://www.geo.uu.se/?languageId=1>) is one of the
most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on
subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from
submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and
oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
