Dear all,
We are seeking a PhD student to join a research project focused on the atmospheric oxidation of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs). The application deadline is 20 April 2025.
This project combines advanced sampling and detection techniques (including chemical ionization mass spectrometers) and data-driven analytical approaches to investigate the real-world oxidation of BVOCs and their transformation into secondary organic aerosols (SOAs).
Further details are available here: https://web103.reachmee.com/ext/I005/1035/job?site=7&lang=UK&validator=9b89bead79bb7258ad55c8d75228e5b7&job_id=36985.
Please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone who may be interested.
(Apologies for any cross-posting - this may have reached you via other mailing lists as well.)
Best regards,
Cheng and Mattias

Description: We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to a research project titled Atmospheric oxidation of emissions from the boreal forest in a complex and nonlinear world. This position is fully funded and will be part of an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring the complex chemistry of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and organic aerosols.
The research task for the PhD student will be to conduct field observations, laboratory experiments, and modelling studies to understand the oxidation of BVOCs and their transformation into secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). Key assignments include:
* Perform both ground-based and airborne field observations using the ACTRIS mobile platform equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers and a novel drone-sampling platform for monitoring and sampling gases and particles.
* Design and perform in-situ oxidation simulation experiments and controlled chamber experiments.
* Use the obtained knowledge from field observation and lab experiments to improve chemistry models with data-driven approaches
The PhD education also includes the development of generic skills and knowledge in tools applicable to research. For instance, one will achieve detailed knowledge within advanced mass spectrometry and data analysis using programming software such as Python, MATLAB, or similar.
We think the right candidate will fit into our dynamic group and the Scandinavian way of doing excellent research!
