Research Analyst position in Computational Agriculture and Environmental Sciences
University of Kentucky - Lexington, KY, USA
Position Summary:
The Research Analyst position at the Agriculture and Environmental Informatics Laboratory, funded by the University of Kentucky’s Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, will collaborate with Dr. Mizuta on various ongoing projects involving a diverse array of stakeholders, including farmers, crop consultants, scientists from other research institutions, industry professionals, and government agencies. Current projects include:
* Utilizing VNIR/MIR spectroscopy for soil characterization with machine learning
* Regional modeling of soil C/N/P/K
* Chronological study with soil from burned forests
* 3D soil analysis in mixed-reality environments
* Precision soil nutrient management using proximal and remote sensing technologies
* Land use and cover change analysis using satellite imagery
The selected candidate will also be encouraged to develop their own research project with Dr. Mizuta’s guidance. Specific areas would be related to digital soil mapping, geospatial modeling, soil health, and precision agriculture research. If you are passionate about using big data and (geo)computational analysis to address complex challenges at the intersection of agriculture and the environment (forestry, geography, water, climate), we encourage you to apply. Main responsibilities include but not limited to
* Maintain lab/field operations and coordinate student workforce
* Conduct and supervise on-farm trials and trainees for sampling
* Prepare samples and analyze laboratory/field/proximal/remote sensing data
* Create and manage a database and metadata
* Assist with grant writing and manuscript preparation
* Assist in mentoring trainees
