Hi all,
I am recruiting graduate students to join my research group at Auburn University in fall of 2025. Available student projects focus on understanding the relationships between fire, climate, and humans in the Earth System. In particular, funding is available to analyze particulate and molecular by-products of wildfires preserved in Holocene sediment archives to reconstruct fire-climate relationships and improve understanding of future climate-driven wildfire potential in the eastern United States.
The Auburn Geosciences department has three graduate degree programs: MS in Geology, MS in Geography, and PhD in Earth System Science. Please find descriptions and details here<https://www.auburn.edu/cosam/departments/geosciences/graduate_programs/index.htm>. Formal applications are due in January 2024.
Students will be fully funded through a combination of research and teaching assistantships (full tuition waivers and summer funding included). Although Auburn is an R1 institution, it is a public land-grant university that prioritizes education, research, and outreach. So, there are ample opportunities and support for students to engage in teaching and outreach as part of their graduate studies, in addition to research.
Please forward this message to any interested students you may know. Interested students are encouraged to contact me via email (rsv0005 at auburn.edu<mailto:rsv0005 at auburn.edu>) to discuss the application process, research projects, and the graduate programs.
Many thanks,
Richard
