The Water School at Florida Gulf Coast University<https://www.fgcu.edu/thewaterschool/> seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Marine Chemistry in the Department of Marine and Earth Sciences. The Water School is an interdisciplinary enterprise that brings together faculty from five colleges and schools representing 15 departments to focus on the environmental, economic, and human dimensions of coastal resilience, ecosystem integrity, health and wellbeing, and restoration and remediation.

The Water School encourages nominations for and applications from qualified individuals with research and teaching interests in marine chemistry. Although we seek a broadly trained marine chemist, with applicants from all sub-disciplines of marine geochemistry/chemical oceanography encouraged to apply, we especially welcome applicants with expertise in carbonate systems, ocean acidification, trace elements, and isotope geochemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in environmental chemistry, marine chemistry, and biogeochemistry (as appropriate) and will have the opportunity to develop new courses in their area of expertise. They will have the opportunity to contribute to the implementation of a new Ph.D. program in Coastal Watershed Science and Policy (anticipated Fall 2025).

The successful candidate will also be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, publish peer-reviewed literature, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research. The successful candidate should demonstrate the potential to contribute across disciplines and promote the continued interdisciplinary growth of the academic and research programs within The Water School. We seek applicants who will expand the expertise of The Water School to address pressing issues in coastal-marine biogeochemistry in the region such as ocean acidification, climate change, and will integrate cutting-edge research with undergraduate and graduate education.
