Description
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of (LDEO) Columbia University located in Palisades, New York, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to conduct collaborative research under the mentorship of LDEO researchers with expertise in climate, air quality, data science, and remote sensing. The incumbent will work directly with Lamont Associate Research Professor, Dan Westervelt. The Clean Air Fund-sponsored research will focus on building, validating, and applying a machine learning model for high spatiotemporal resolution PM2.5 data using satellite observations and sparsley available ground monitors. Activities will include leveraging ground-based data and satellite data for developing novel PM2.5 datasets and leading in the writing, publication, and presentation of the study results at scientific conferences, seminars and colloquia. Will also participate in local, national and international scientific community, e.g., through service. Qualifications
Candidates should have recently completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in Atmospheric, Climate or Earth System Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline. Must have demonstrated competence in analyzing observational data both from ground observations and remote sensing. Experience in air quality and climate research is a plus. We put a strong emphasis on excellent communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, independent judgement, and demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality research. Ability to work independently but collaboratively is essential.
Initial appointment will be for one year, with continuation for a second year dependent on available funding and research progress. The starting base salary for this position is $71,050.
