The Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy
(CNR-ISMAR) is looking for a motivated and talented research scientist to
work on a 12-month position with the possibility of renewing another
year (*ricercatore
a tempo determinato*) on evaluating climate datasets of the Copernicus
Climate Service. The research activity is part of the European Copernicus
Climate Change Service (C3S2_520) which CNR-ISMAR is coordinating and
collaborating with other 10 European universities and research institutions.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
- Evaluating and analysing climate datasets to understand the scientific
quality of these datasets for example the representation of climate signals
(e.g. climate extremes) within these datasets
- Leading working packages on evaluating observation-based climate
datasets (e.g. reanalyses data, in-situ and satellite datasets)
- *Required Degree*: STEM disciplines; a PhD or at least 3-year research
experience
- *Desired skills:*
§ Background in mathematics, physics,meteorology, climate science, marine
science, engineering.
§ Experiences in the analysis of climate datasets (e.g. reanalyses,
in-situ and satellite datasets)
§ Experiences in climate dynamics, including compound climate extremes, and
its applications in the climate change context.
§ Strong programming skills for data analysis, preferably in Python3
- *Salary: *~ 35k€ / year (about 2000Euros after taxes)
- *Deadline: *31 October 2024
- *Starting date: *1st Jan 2025 (negotiable).
- *Location: *CNR-ISMAR, Rome, Italy
