I am recruiting a PhD student to join my Marine Biogeochemistry group at
the University of Delaware’s Marine Sciences campus in Lewes, DE starting
summer or fall 2025. My group investigates carbon cycling processes and
microbial biogeochemistry in the ocean using carbon isotopes and organic
geochemical approaches. The potential student’s research will focus on
hydrothermal vent processes and/or methane seep biogeochemistry. It will
involve both lab-based research and ship-based field work. There is some
flexibility to tailor the specific research to the interests of the
prospective student within larger, currently-funded projects.

For this position, I am seeking a student who is highly motivated and
independent, and who has experience with analytical chemistry techniques.
Experience with GC-MS, LC-MS, stable isotope analysis, and/or
natural-abundance radiocarbon would be a plus. Because of the cruise
mobilizations that this student will be involved in, an ability to obtain a
US drivers license will be helpful.

The student will enroll through the Ph.D. in Oceanography program at the
University of Delaware. Applications are due December 1, 2025 for priority
consideration.
