The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University invites highly motivated and creative postdoctoral scholars in Atmospheric and Climate Dynamics, supervised by Prof. Lei Wang.

The position will be in the area of large-scale atmospheric dynamics and climate. Possible investigation topics include but are not limited to developing process-oriented diagnostics for extratropical Rossby wave dynamics and weather extremes, and understanding jetstream dynamics, the role of moisture, atmospheric blocking and associated high-impact extreme weather events. The research activities will involve a combination of observations, theory, and/or idealized and comprehensive modeling. They will also work closely with collaborator Dr. Yi Ming at Boston College.

Candidates for this position should have recently completed their Ph.D. or should expect to complete their degree requirements by the start date, in atmospheric science, climate science, or relevant Earth science program. Preferred qualifications include: (1) strong background in atmospheric/climate dynamics; (2) capacity to analyze large datasets such as output from climate models or observations; (3) Proficiency in numerical analysis and high-performance computing; (4) Experience with atmosphere/climate models of various complexities; (5) Strong planning and organizational skills, with the capacity to effectively prioritize multiple tasks, set clear deadlines, and consistently meet them.

Candidates interested in this position should have a record of scientific achievement, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The initial position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years, subject to satisfactory progress and funding availability. The start date is flexible. A background check is required for employment in this position. Applications will be reviewed immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.
