Dear All,
The Environmental Geophysics Lab in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Toronto is recruiting PhD students (Fall 2025) to conduct research at the interface of near-surface geophysics and Arctic environmental science. The student will use a combination of noninvasive field geophysical methods, field observations, geophysical modeling, and remote sensing to investigate permafrost dynamics below lakes and drained lake basins in the Arctic and boreal regions of Canada and Alaska. The Environmental Geophysics Lab employs several near-surface geophysical methods, including ground penetrating radar, transient electromagnetics, electrical resistivity tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance.
Successful applicants are expected to have a M.Sc. degree in geophysics, earth science/geoscience, geology, physics, or engineering. Experience with near-surface geophysical methods and fieldwork in cold regions is desired. A willingness to work closely with the other PhD students and collaborators is expected.
If you are interested, please contact Rodrigo Rangel (rodrigo.rangel at utoronto.ca) to discuss opportunities and research interests. In your email, please include a cover letter stating your overall motivation, CV, a copy of your transcripts, and contact details of three potential referees.
Please visit https://www.es.utoronto.ca/programs/graduate for details on the graduate program. All application materials must be received by January 15, 2025, for consideration.
Kind regards,
Rodrigo Corrêa Rangel
