Please find details regarding an open postdoctoral research associate position in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma below.

Position Title:

Postdoctoral Research Associate: School of Meteorology, University of Oklahoma, Norman Campus

General Description:

The Aerosol, Clouds, and Convection Group in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, led by Dr. Zachary J. Lebo, is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position with a start date of January 1, 2025. Applications from all interested and qualified individuals are welcome.

The successful candidate will support a recently funded Department of Energy (DOE) grant aimed at improving understanding of convective cloud dynamics and microphysics, how they are linked through feedbacks, and quantifying the relation between environmental parameters and cloud dynamics and microphysics. The analysis will leverage recent DOE field campaign data (e.g., remote sensing and in situ observations), as well as high-resolution model simulations. The group is looking for an inquisitive individual that can lead the observational data analysis, as well as collaborate within the group and other DOE-supported scientists to help guide modeling activities grounded in the observational analysis. Findings from the research are expected to be presented at scientific meetings and via journal articles.

The School of Meteorology is housed within the National Weather Center, providing researchers unique opportunities to collaborate beyond the academic unit. The School has 28 full-time faculty, approximately 120 graduate and 330 undergraduate students and is an international leader in educating the next generation of atmospheric scientists and meteorologists. Additional information on the School can be found at the following link: https://ou.edu/ags/meteorology.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  * PhD in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or related field
  * Expertise working with large in situ and remote sensing datasets, especially focused on aerosol and convective cloud properties
  * Proficient at developing code for statistical analyses
  * Strong scientific writing and communication skills
  * Ability to work collaboratively and independently

Preferences (Not Required):

  * Experience using numerical models (e.g., WRF or CM1), especially for high-resolution simulations on a supercomputer

Application Instructions:

Applicants are invited to submit a comprehensive cover letter (not to exceed 3 pages), current C.V., and a list of three professional references to the project PI, Dr. Zachary J. Lebo (Zachary.lebo at ou.edu). The cover letter may address examples of the candidate’s research experience, in particular how it relates to the current project. Additional materials may be requested at a later date. The search will remain open until filled.

Contact Person and Application Review Date:

Applications will begin being reviewed on December 1, 2024.

Inquiries should be directed to Dr. Zachary J. Lebo (Zachary.lebo at ou.edu)
