Postdoctoral position in atmospheric science/hydrology/climate at the University of Toronto

Position details:
Employer: University of Toronto (U of T)
Location: Toronto, Canada
Education Level: Ph.D.
Job Type: Postdoctoral Associate
Salary: up to CAD$ 60,000/yr., negotiable and depending on experience
Term: Full Time, 1 year, with possibility of renewal for a total of 2 year

Requirements:

  * Ph.D. in hydrology, atmospheric science, civil engineering, or related fields
  * High level of independence and strong interest in working in an interdisciplinary research environment
  * Excellent research track record with publications in peer-reviewed journals
  * Strong oral and written communication skills
  * Advanced knowledge of climate, hydrologic, and atmospheric data sets
  * Advanced knowledge of land-atmosphere interactions
  * Knowledge in hydrologic, atmospheric, and regional climate modeling
  * Knowledge of programming languages such as Fortran, python, CDO, NCL, NCO

The successful candidate will work on a project to analyze the physical mechanism of seasonal, extreme atmospheric and hydrologic events in eastern and western Canada, quantify the associated land-surface impacts, and propose adaptation strategies. The project will include performing and analyzing simulation experiments in a regional climate model with forcing determined by global climate simulations carried out as part of the EXplain and PrediCT Regional Climate Changes (EXPECT) program. The simulations will be interpreted in the context of teleconnected signals of climate extremes, considering anthropogenic and natural forcing effects. The candidate will work with Prof. Paul Kushner in the Department of Physics and Prof. Hamed Ibrahim in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering. The successful candidate will be hosted at either of these two departments. The EXPECT program involves researchers in Europe and North America, so the successful candidate will collaborate with several international colleagues and institutions.

The selected candidate will join a broad and equitable group of researchers with a strong interest in promoting diversity in science and engineering. Accordingly, we welcome and encourage applications from all qualified persons of any gender, sexual orientation, persons with disability, and minority groups.

How to apply:
The application must include (in a single pdf) a cover letter, a short statement of your research interests (1 page max), a complete CV (with academic transcripts) and the contact information of three references to support the candidacy. For any question regarding these positions, please contact Paul Kushner (paul.kushner at utoronto.ca<mailto:paul.kushner at utoronto.ca>) or Hamed Ibrahim (hamed.ibrahim at utoronto.ca<mailto:hamed.ibrahim at utoronto.ca>).
