Dear all,
we have three open positions available at the Chair of Model-based Environmental Exposure Science at University of Augsburg, Germany.
* Research associate on urban-scale air quality modeling (3 + 3 years, full-time)
Interested candidates should have previous experience in numerical modeling of air quality, ideally on the urban-scale, a PhD in natural sciences (physics, meteorology, geosciences, mathematics or similar) and a strong interest in research in the domain of environmental health, with a focus on air quality and related physical environmental factors (light, noise, etc.). You would pursue your own research agenda in the field of air quality modeling, supervise PhD, Master and Bachelor students, apply for third-party funding, and contribute to teaching at the Chair.

* PhD student on air quality health effects due to traffic emissions (3 years, full-time)
Within the collaborative project TRANSCAPE funded by the Health Effects Institute (www.healtheffects.org) we will investigate health effects of a changing urban transportation landscape. In this PhD you will investigate effects of changes to traffic patterns on local air quality and connect it to cardiovascular health impacts. Your main tasks will be to develop methods (e.g., machine-learning based) to approximate the interactions between local traffic emissions and urban background air pollution. A STEM background is required. You will work closely with colleagues from Helmholtz Munich, TUM and LMU university in Munich and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

* Postdoctoral research associate on associations between stroke incidence and environmental exposures (2 years, 100%, full-time)
In collaboration with the department of neurology at the university hospital Augsburg you will investigate associations between stroke incidence and environmental factors (heat waves, cold spells, episodes of elevated air quality, etc.). Your main responsibilities will be the statistical analysis of a prospective dataset on neurological conditions in combination with env. factors like air quality or temperature, and a review of predictive skill of existing associations between stroke and the environment as published in the literature. A background in natural sciences, statistics or similar is recommended.
