The Smithsonian Institution's Great Plains Science Program and Conservation Ecology Center are hiring a postdoc to work on a synthesis of soil responses to megaherbivores using a distributed network of collaborators in global grassland systems. The position is based in Bozeman, Montana (under the Great Plains Science Program) and is expected to have three years of funding. Position supervisors will include Ellen Welti (Smithsonian Institution's Great Plains Science Program) and Jared Stabach (Smithsonian Institution's Conservation Ecology Center).

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum and research complex, consisting of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park, nine research facilities, and the Smithsonian Institution Libraries.  The Great Plains Science Program and Conservation Ecology Center both fall under the Smithsonian Institution's (SI) National Zoological Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI). NZCBI plays a leading role in the Smithsonian's global efforts identify responses to global change, conduct on the ground ecology and ecological restoration, and train future generations of conservationists.

This is an early-career scientist position with duties to conceive, plan, and conduct research on basic and applied ecology of grasslands in response to changes in herbivore regimes (both domestic and wild). The position is intended for an ecologist with skills in evaluating changes occurring in soils. This research will be conducted with a large network of distributed partners to address research gaps in global grassland ecology.
